Bill to improve fiscal oversight of education signed into law
April 25, 2019 – A Senate Bill 549 authored by State Sen. Victoria Spartz (R-Noblesville) requiring school superintendents to submit a financial indicators report (dashboard), created by House Enrolled Act 1315 in 2018, to the school boards was signed into law by Gov. Eric Holcomb.
It also urges the Legislative Council to assign a summer study committee to study the oversight and governance structure of tax increment financing as well as reporting mechanisms between local government units.
“Indiana spends over 50% of its funds on education,” Spartz said. “We have to make sure that our local school boards and taxpayers have proper tools for better informed decision-making.”
