Bill to enhance public pension oversight signed into law

April 10, 2019 – A bill authored by State Sen. Victoria Spartz (R-Noblesville) providing lawmakers with more relevant pension-related fiscal information was signed into law by Gov. Eric Holcomb.

Senate Enrolled Act 545 requires the executive director of the Indiana Public Retirement System and trustee of the Indiana State Police Pension Trust to report any stress tests as well as sensitivity and risk analyses performed each year to the Interim Study Committee on Pension Management Oversight.

“As lawmakers, my colleagues and I are faced with making decisions that affect public pension plans,” Spartz said. “Timely and relevant information about the long-term financial risks and potential costs is very important for better informed decision-making.”

The Interim Study Committee on Pension Management Oversight meets annually during the summer and fall months.
